The journey started over a decade ago with the purchase of a worn out 1965 Mustang used as a race car in the One Lap of America Event (Pick up day picture at right). The car was previously built in 1995 with supercharged 302 EFI engine and participated in One Lap so many times and was successful it was known as the "One Lap Mustang."
I bought the car and made some easy upgrades like a Detroit Speed Quadra-link rear end and mini tubs and enjoyed it as a weekend hotrod while participating in events and further developing my driving skills with a 2017 GT-350. We participated in regular VIP days, HPDE's, Big Bend Open Road Race (BBORR), Nevada Open Road Challenge (NORC), and Virginia City Hillclimb.
Starting in 2022 it was decided to completely rebuild the car as a competitive time attack car with the option to participate in the Pike's Peak Hillclimb sometime in the future. My first car was a 1967 Mustang coupe and I have always dreamed of a 1965 fastback racecar. The time was now!
Dusuld Designs, in Lewisville, TX has been the builder of choice with a chassis design, powertrain, and quality of work that is second to none. Mike Dusold and his team have been very successful with Optima Ultimate Streetcar Challenge, Time Attack, and PPIHC.
The Evil Twin Mustang started as a "copy" of the Dusold Camaro but has since been upgraded through all of the learnings from running the Camaro over the years. The name has morphed based on discussions with some "older" gearheads saying that Carroll Shelby would "roll over in his grave" if he saw what we did to the 1965. In our opinion Carroll and the guys that made the mustang the iconic car that it is today would be doing exactly what we did if they had the access to the technology we do today! (As well as the evil twin referring to those small garrett twin turbos helping power the beast!)
